About the Author
A Lincoln Park local, Krista August holds an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Northwestern University and a graduate degree in education from DePaul University. Prior to creating Giants in the Park, Krista worked eight years as a finance professional, and she taught school for seven years, at the elementary and middle school levels.
Krista’s art studies include classes at the Palette and Chisel, the Old Town Triangle Association, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Richeson School of Art, and the Peninsula School of Art.
For three years, she took great pleasure in researching, composing, and illustrating Giants in the Park.
Since its February 2011 release, Krista has promoted her book, note cards, and prints and has exhibited her artwork at book talks, art showings, festivals, and book signing events. In January 2012, the Chicago Writers Association honored Giants in the Park with a Book of the Year award.
Giants in the Park is also a tour. Krista offers walking tours and bike tours for portions of the route. Visit “Lincoln Park Sculpture Tours” page to learn more.
Aside from her book project, Krista works part-time at a local gallery/frame shop, Art de Triumph/Artful Framer studios, and she enjoys volunteering for the Chicago Architecture Foundation, where she gives walking tours of Chicago’s historic and modern skyscrapers.
